The night before Eid is a time of reflection and celebration. As the holy month of Ramadan or the days of the Hajj come to an end, Muslims around the world eagerly await the arrival of the joyous occasion of Eid.

However, the night before Eid, known as Lailatul Jaiza or the Night of Reward, holds special significance and offers a unique opportunity for reflection, worship, and anticipation. In this post, we will delve into the essence of the night before Eid and explore the ways in which we can embrace this sacred time.

1. A Night of Vigilance

Lailatul Jaiza is a night of vigilance and devotion. Following the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, many Muslims choose to stay awake part of the night, engaging in acts of worship and seeking spiritual fulfillment. By making ibadah, they demonstrate their eagerness to draw closer to Allah SWT.

2. The Night of Reward

Lailatul Jaiza is aptly named the Night of Reward, as it is believed that Allah SWT bestows His abundant blessings and forgiveness upon those who have sincerely observed their sacrifices. It is a night of immense spiritual significance, where prayers and supplications are more likely to be accepted. As Muslims, we seize this opportunity to seek forgiveness, reflect upon our actions during Ramadan and Hajj, and express gratitude for the blessings received.

3. Embracing Worship

Muslims utilize the night before Eid to engage in various acts of worship. They perform voluntary prayers (nafl) and recite the Quran, seeking solace and serenity in the verses of Allah's SWT revelation. These acts of devotion serve as a means to enhance one's spirituality and strengthen the bond with our Creator. It is a time for introspection and self-reflection as we evaluate our actions and make sincere resolutions for self-improvement.

4. Making Supplications

Lailatul Jaiza is a night of heartfelt supplications. Muslims pour out their desires and needs to Allah SWT, seeking His guidance, blessings, and mercy. We beseech Him for forgiveness, protection, and success in both worldly and spiritual matters. It is a time to express gratitude for the strength and perseverance shown during Ramadan and the Hajj to humbly request His continued support in their journey of faith.

5. The Transition to Eid

While Lailatul Jaiza has a spiritual atmosphere, it is also a night of anticipation and excitement. As Muslims, we prepare ourselves mentally and spiritually for the upcoming day of Eid. We adorn ourselves with new clothes, engage in acts of self-grooming, and make arrangements for the festive celebrations that lie ahead. The night before Eid is a time to gather with our loved ones, exchange greetings, visit the masjid, be charitable, and express joy and gratitude for our blessings of Ramadan and those who went for Hajj.

The Prophet PBUH said about this night:

"Whoever stands up (in worship) in the nights preceding the two Eids expecting rewards from his Lord, his heart will not die when the other hearts will die." (Ibn Majah)
