25+ Parenting Tips I Learned as a Mom of 6 After 25 Years

Alhamdulillah, after many, many years of parenting six children, I can say with certainty that motherhood is one of the greatest blessings and most challenging responsibilities. It is a journey filled with love, sacrifice, patience, and immense personal growth.

Raising children, especially in today’s world, requires strong faith, wisdom, and a deep commitment to traditional Islamic values. My experiences have taught me valuable lessons that I wish I had known earlier, and I hope these insights benefit other mothers, whether new to parenting or well into their journey.

Faith & Parenting

  1. Make dua for your children every single day—your prayers will follow them even when you are not around.

  2. Teach your children about Allah SWT from a young age—make faith a natural part of their lives.

  3. Lead by example—children learn more from what they see than what they are told.

  4. Encourage daily salah and recitation of the Quran as a family—it builds a strong foundation of iman.

  5. Trust in Allah’s SWT plan for your children—do your best and leave the rest in His hands.

    Raising Righteous Children

  6. Prioritize Islamic education—teach them the deen before the world teaches them otherwise.

  7. Be mindful of the company they keep—good friends will strengthen their faith, while bad influences will weaken it.

  8. Limit their exposure to harmful media—what they consume shapes their values and worldview.

  9. Instill strong morals and character—truthfulness, humility, patience, and kindness should be nurtured early.

  10. Teach them about the lives of the Prophet SAW and the Sahabah—they are the best role models.

    Discipline & Character Building

  11. Discipline with love and fairness—never out of anger.

  12. Set clear boundaries and expectations—children thrive with structure and consistency.

  13. Teach responsibility from a young age—small tasks build independence and confidence.

  14. Allow natural consequences—sometimes, experience is the best teacher.

  15. Instill gratitude—remind them that everything they have is a blessing from Allah SWT.

    Family Bonding & Home Environment

  16. Make your home a peaceful and loving place—children should feel safe and valued.

  17. Have regular family get-togethers—this strengthens relationships and creates lasting memories.

  18. Encourage open communication—your children should always feel comfortable talking to you.

  19. Create traditions and special moments—these small gestures build a strong family bond.

  20. Spend quality time with each child—each one is unique and needs individual attention.

    Practical Advice for Mothers

  21. Take care of yourself—a healthy, happy mother raises healthy, happy children.

  22. Don’t compare your parenting journey to others—every child and family is different.

  23. Be patient—children will test you, but patience is one of the greatest virtues in Islam.

  24. Seek knowledge continuously—parenting is a lifelong learning experience.

  25. Trust your instincts—Allah SWT has given mothers an incredible intuition, so listen to it.

  26. Don’t try to control your children—they are an amanah from Allah SWT and we do not own them.

  27. Don’t lose yourself to despair—when kids hurt or disappoint you, keep your iman strong, as our children are a trial and a test for us at times.

  28. Don’t fall into guilt—if you’ve raised your children well and were a present mother, lose the guilt and leave the rest up to Allah SWT.

Parenthood is a sacred trust from Allah SWT. While it comes with challenges, the rewards—both in this life and the Hereafter—are immeasurable. Every struggle, every sleepless night, and every sacrifice is known and rewarded by our Most Merciful Lord. Keep striving, keep praying, and keep trusting in His plan. May Allah SWT bless all parents with wisdom, patience, and success in raising righteous children. Ameen.
