Helpful Motherhood Hacks

I don’t know about you, but I love hacks and quick tips to make my mom love easier. Here are some of my favorites ones to share…

  • Take a whiff of coffee before sniffing a new scent to get the true smell each time.

  • Use vinegar in place of expensive rinse aid for your dishwasher cycle and see your dishes shine without the expense, chemicals, or a vinegar scent.

  • For no-fuss, natural hair curls, twist strands of hair from top to end, wrap around itself spirally to form a knot at the base of your head. Fasten with a tie. Do your whole head of hair. Spray with hairspray and use a hairdryer if you wish. Sleep overnight, or keep for at least an hour. Loosen ties, finger style it, and enjoy your spiral curls on undamaged hair.

  • Disjointing or cutting-up raw chicken is such a pain with a knife. Cut it up with kitchen shears and it’s a a no-brainer and the only way I do it!

  • The best way to clean fake flowers or plants that look awful when dusty, is to fill a sink with hot, soapy water, turn the fauna upside down if you can, dunk it, and swish it around in the sink. Do this to all your fauna, then drain the dirty water, fill the sink again but with warm water. Dunk your soapy fauna to rinse the soap away and air dry. Your fake plants/flowers will look like you just bought it!

  • Wrote with permanent marker on your whiteboard? No problem, just rewrite over it with a washable marker, erase, and see the permanent marker marks all disappear.

  • Add 1 tsp of sugar to any food that uses can or fresh tomatoes as an ingredient, it takes away some of the bitter taste of the tomatoes in your food.

  • Got a recent blood stain on your carpet or fabric? Pour hydrogen peroxide on the bloodstain, see it fizz. Dab excess peroxide and scrub the stain away like magic! Works best on a new bloodstain but needs extra peroxide and scrubbing on old stains.

  • A frayed fabric ribbon can be controlled by cutting away the frayed part and carefully burning the ends to cause a seal. Please proceed with caution.

  • Does your chicken sometimes give off an extra “chickeney” smell or taste after being cooked or when you eat it the next day? After cutting and washing it, soak your raw chicken in a mixture of white vinegar and lemon juice. Wait for 30 mins or preferably an hour, rinse and add to the pot to cook as you usually would. Your chicken will have a great taste now!

  • When making PBJ sandwiches for your kids, hide the heels of the bread and avoid the moan by spreading the PBJ on the heel side and putting a regular slice on top of it. The heel is now on the inside of the sandwich and untrained, young eyes are none the wiser!

  • Get your kids to help more in the kitchen. Allow them to use a pizza cutter instead of a knife. It is safer and easier for them to handle and enables them to assist with chopping up herbs and lettuce, as well as slicing sandwiches, tortillas, naan, pitas, brownies, pie, lunch meats, etc. Call it your universal cutter!

  • Add 2 tbsp of plain oats to your tuna salad as it adds nutrients and stretches it further for a big family. It is hardly noticed by the kids either.

  • Did you know that canned stewed tomatoes are less tart than other canned tomatoes? It’s cooked that’s why, so it makes curries and stews taste more sweet than tart.

I hope these tips help you somewhat mama! Please share your most helpful mom tips in the comment box below and I’ll add it to this post!
